Third Grade, Energy
Directions to student:
Describe how the drink will be different after one hour. Include at least 2 details. Tell about the energy causing the changes.
Student Work A
"The drink will be warm and the out side of the glass will be foggy. Also all of the ice cubes would be melted because of the heat. The Sun makes the ice cubes (solid) melt into the drink (liquid.) After a while, the drink will bet hot enugh to form into steam (gas.) When you come back, there will hardly be any left."
Level 4: student correctly gave more than the required number of facts and the
energy source.
Student Work B
"The lemonade will change it's taste because the sun will melt the ice cues and make it taste like water. The outside of the glass will get wet. The inside of the glass will turn all fogy. The suns power of heat makes the ice melt because it is so hot."
Level 4: student correctly gave more than the required number of facts and the
energy source.
Student Work C
"The cup will become cloudy. The heat will make the ice melt. Next it will turn to steam. Soon the cup will be cloudy. Then the ice will be gone. The energy is heat energy. It comes from the sun."
Level 3: student provided what was asked for.
Student Work D
"I think the cup is going to be foggle and the drink is going to be very hot The ice in the drink is going to ment the Sun energy is so srong that it makes foggle."
Level 2: student's explanation of the effect of the Sun's energy is confusing. They
have two basic facts "ice is going to ment" and cup is going to be
foggle".
