Teacher’s Page

Grade: Three
Topic: Characteristics of Sound
Instructional Materials: Sound (STC) OR Physics of Sound (FOSS)
*Special Instructions: None
MA LS (96 version): Inquiry: Interpret findings by relating one factor to another.

Physical Science: Demonstrate that sound is produced by vibrating objects. Students find ways to alter properties of sound such as pitch.

MA LS (01 version): Grade 3 – 5 Physical Science: Recognize that sound is produced by vibrating objects and requires a medium through which to travel. Relate the rate of vibration to the pitch of the sound.
BPS LS: Pitch is a function of the frequency or rapidity if the vibration.
Technology Connection: Student uses a Word template. (See the templates section.)

*The teacher should encourage students to elaborate, give more than the minimum, and strive for a Level 4.

A student response correctly giving the minimum number of responses or details is a Level 3.

In order to achieve a Level 4, a student must go above and beyond what is asked. For example, the student gives more than the required minimum or makes additional connections.
